Contemporary digital media studies increasingly recognize video games as significant platforms for reflecting cultural norms and values, extending beyond mere entertainment. This research investigates how cultural values are represented in games originating from Eastern and Western traditions, focusing on systematic differences in their portrayals. Through a comparative analysis of “Ghost of Tsushima“ and “The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt”, this study examines divergent conceptualizations of fate versus free will, the relationship between society and the individual, honor and pragmatism, and constructions of morality. Utilizing a qualitative approach and interpretive content analysis, data were gathered through literature review, narrative analysis, and observation of gameplay mechanics, guided by a four-component conceptual framework. Findings indicate that Ghost of Tsushima embodies a cultural system emphasizing determinism, collectivism, traditional honor, and a clear moral dichotomy, while The Witcher 3 presents individualism, agency, moral pragmatism, and value relativism. These distinctions reflect the underlying cultural and ethical structures of Eastern and Western societies, shaping narrative, character development, and game design.
